Cooked Tomatoes Reduce Heart Attacks
A study from Harvard Medical School shows that eating tomato sauce is associated with reduced heart attack risk.
Previous studies show that eating lots of cooked tomato products is associated with lowered risk for prostate and other cancers. The antioxidant, lycopene, is found in relatively low levels in fresh tomatoes and much higher levels in cooked tomato products. Lycopene is also soluble in fat, so tomato products that are prepared with oils or other fats higher levels of lycopene than water based ones. That explains why tomato sauces and pizza are excellent sources of lycopene. Do not think that you prevent heart attacks by eating any one food. You prevent heart attacks by eating large amounts of many plant based foods that are rich sources of many phytochemicals, including lycopene.
